Sunbeams and Little Girls

It's so hard to believe how fast you are growing up. It seems like just yesterday when you were jumping out of my arms, learning to walk, reading your first words, riding your first bike, cartwheeling across parking lots and down grocery aisles, twirling on your first ride at Disney, and discovering the feel of grass and sand between your toes.

This week, we watched you get on the bus for 4th grade, for the first time, smiling the entire time - you were grinning ear to ear with sunbeams coming out of your eyes.

When I looked into your eyes it became very clear to me - I am a good mom . . . because of you.

You are kind, smart, generous, sassy and (too) quick with the wit. You read, you learn, you grow. You are funny, you listen (most of the time), and you let me know how you feel. You tell me when I'm wrong (all the time), you tell me when I'm right (not often enough), and you don't let mistakes get you down. You offer opinions, you seek opinions and you are on a continual quest to understand. You are creative, you are insightful and you are developing into your own right before my very eyes.

You are beautiful - inside and out - and Daddy and I love you very, very much.

Kiddo, you will always be my little girl. When "little" is the last thing you want to be called, my heart will hold those words for you.

Here's to sunbeams, little girls and well, growing up. Love you.
